There are many features included in Red Crab Cube Timer making timing solves much easier and more suited to your way of speed cubing. Red Crab Cube Timer is a multi-functional computerised stopwatch application that avid speed cubers can use to time solves. It's free, so grab it and start twisting. If you're not into Rubik's Cube, Red Crab Cube Timer isn't going to be much use to you, unless you're looking for a festive stopwatch. The program is pretty self explanatory, luckily. There's no real Help file, and selecting Help from the drop-down menu takes you to the program's Web page, which doesn't offer much information. The timer keeps track of minutes and seconds, and you can start and stop it quickly by pressing the space bar on your computer, which makes it extremely easy to use. The program saves your time each time you start and stop the timer, so you can use that feature to challenge yourself again and again. If you don't like the colorful backgrounds, you can always go with the plain background, which is seriously plain, but at least it's easier on the eyes. All of the illustrated backgrounds have a psychedelic look that isn't particularly appealing, though some users may like them. You can choose a plain background or one of 12 illustrated backgrounds as a backdrop for the timer, which appears at the center of the screen. The program's interface is basic and easy to navigate but not very attractive.

Those who enjoy trying to solve the cube as fast as possible can use this free tool to add some flair to the timing process. But, if playing a fart noise when you stop your timer is your thing, ZYX Timer has your back.Red Crab Cube Timer is a stopwatch application designed to time how fast it takes you to solve Rubik's Cube. And the "play a sound on stop" feature is interesting, but really only useful if you want to annoy your friends. It also has a "global" tab which has algs for 2x2 and 3x3 and from my understanding it's supposed to be user based, but I don't think many people use this feature because there are barely any algs there and I wouldn't even recommend using most of them. I think this would be a very useful feature for someone just starting out with learning algs. So if you are someone who is learning OLL you can go through, select the algs you want to drill, and you'll start the timer, perform the alg, stop it and then it moves onto the next case and helps you drill them. Inside the training tab you'll see a list for speed scrambles, OLL practice, PLL practice, and LL practice. ZYX timer doesn't do a lot of things very unique, but it does have a couple notable features such as the training tab which no other timer features. As far as I'm aware this is the only timer that does this and I really hope more timers will add it. One thing I do love about this timer is the customizable keyboard shortcuts. If you're fast at Square 1, you're probably look upwards of a 10 second wait in between scrambles. Upon initially selecting the event it typically took 30 seconds for the scramble to generate and after a solve it varied. One of the cons is the slow generating time for Square 1 scrambles. While it is a fairly basic time you can rest assured that you will always have a legit scramble and not something ridiculous that shouldn't count.

The scramble generator is what is used for official WCA competitions.I mentioned that the stackmat feature didn't work in Chrome, and this is due to CSTimer not being https, but the developer has said if you want to use a stackmat with Chrome to use this link: CSTimer also supports mobile, so you can use it on your phone and it actually works surprisingly well. CSTimer does have a slightly larger learning curve, but once you get used to it I do believe it's the best overall timer. I love keyboard shortcuts for everything I do and being able to switch events or add penalties quicker is great. My person a favorite feature of CSTimer is the keyboard shortcuts. Overall I love CSTimer, you can customize it to look however you want and it has lots of handy tools. Sometimes spits out stupid scrambles like 3 movers for 2x2 even when set to WCA mode. And you can set this to as many as you want. You can use this to time your splits for individual steps of your solving.
Actively updated with the Speedsolving cstimer thread. You can connect a stackmat (Though I think there is something about this not working in Chrome).Unlimited sessions and you can name them.Keyboard shortcuts for penalties and switching events.Draw scramble to see if you scrambled correctly.
